The idol
That is worshiped
To its followers below
Does not smile to those beneath him
Nor tell them of their doom
He just sits-above
On a throne
And watches the fools go by
Aimlessly searching
For hope
In lonely, vacant, stony eyes.
They weep and tear their hair
For the 'foolish of things'
And some have died
Beneath his feet
On the cold, forgiving ground
Yet there he stands
A cold stone mask
A cynic's dream-beyond a dream
A foolish smile
A truth-less gile
That only brings
Forgotten things.
Another passes by
And stops to stare
Into his eyes
A moment-then is lost
For she sees the truth and shudders
At the eyes that saw through
And then-it left
And he was calm again
And put his bloody robe
About him
And marveled in the tears
And heart
That foolish people seem to have
A girl came-it was she
Who stole into his stony mask
She whispered and shed a tear
Then-alone
On, she passed.
This-said he-
Your future
See your doom, you-
About me-
I am all-but I am nothing
I am glory, fame, and power
And yes, wealth too
But see what you are
And see why you have come
You-
The foolish people
To me…
I cannot grant you love
Nor destiny do I read
Nor can I help your dying
Your sick, or those of need
I am but-
A Statue
Now grant my stony mask
I am all that never was
Stolen from memories past-
Now you see
What I am
No longer am I your idol
Strip me down
And burn me
And erase my name from time itself
For I am not worthy
The foolish people
Did not hear him
Nor grant an inner ear
To the stony countenance
That now walked among them
Am I not to die, then-
Desecrator of the future
Torment was lent on my un-mending ears
I hear no more
Eyes have wept
Blood and their tears
I see no more
Lament and sorrow
Were their cry
I speak no more
And this was but a dream
To the eye of the god-
Beholding his fall
And he
Felt pity
For the other-
But let him live
And see
And die a thousand more deaths…
Than he-
The statue grew unloved
And un-worshiped more, at that
And drew his breath at great-
And crumbled into the ground
The ground that some did die on
And other wept their tears and blood
He fell
And sighed a thousand cries
And leavened
Into
Dust.
